Most honey on the shelf has been blended and heated.

To keep honey pouring like syrup for years, producers pasteurise it and filter it fine, which strips out the pollen and the aroma along the way. Most jars are also blended from several sources, sometimes several countries, so what you taste is an average rather than a place. Neither practice is wrong, but it does mean that the honey most of us grew up on tastes of very little in particular.

Why you'll love it

Genuinely raw

Cold extracted and strained below 40°C, never pasteurised.

One ingredient

Raw Tasmanian Kunzea Honey. No syrups, sugars or water.

Single origin

One region, one flowering, fully traceable to the season.

Mild, not sharp

Smooth and rich, without the bite of the stronger natives.

Wild forage

Hives sit in unfarmed native scrub, with no cropping nearby.

Award winning

Gold at the 2026 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, judged blind.

Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards

Judged blind. Awarded gold.

Our Kunzea Honey took Gold at the 2026 Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards, where every entry is tasted blind by a panel of chefs, producers and buyers. No label, no backstory, no brand on the jar. Just the honey.

Tasmania judging Tasmanian food, which is a fair place to be measured.

What's inside

Just honey.

One hundred per cent raw, monofloral Tasmanian Kunzea Honey. That is the entire ingredient list, which is why the flavour changes a little from season to season rather than tasting identical forever.

Kunzea ambigua is an Australian native shrub, and it is the same plant behind our Kunzea oil. The honey is the edible side of it.

Why it is so limited

Kunzea flowers for a short window in spring, and the yield is low. For every five drums of other native honeys our beekeepers produce, only one drum of Kunzea comes out of the season.

Why we do not heat it

Warming honey past 40°C makes it pour more easily and keeps it liquid on the shelf, but it drives off the aroma and the natural enzymes. We strain it cold and accept that it will set in the jar.

Why it is not certified organic

The hives sit in wild, unfarmed bush with no cropping or spraying in the forage range, but we do not hold an organic certification. We would rather tell you exactly what we do than use a word we cannot back up.

Kunzea Honey styled with native botanicals

It started at a market stall.

Zea began in 2016 as a family stall in Tasmania, selling Kunzea to people who had never heard of it. We are now a Certified B Corporation and a 1% for the Planet member, donating one per cent of all sales to the planet. The honey came about because the same plant that made our oil turned out to make something worth eating, and we would rather sell a little of it properly than a lot of it heated and blended.

Questions, answered

What makes Kunzea Honey so rare?

It is harvested just once a year in spring, when the native Kunzea ambigua flowers for a short seasonal window in North-East Tasmania. For every five drums of other native honeys, only one drum of Kunzea can be produced. Once we run out, that is it until next season.

Is it really raw?

Yes. 100% raw, unfiltered and unprocessed, with no additives, colourants or preservatives. It is single origin, fully traceable, and produced under sustainable, ethical beekeeping practices.

What does it taste like?

Smooth and rich with a mild, approachable sweetness and a distinctive native character. It is far gentler than the stronger native honeys people often expect, which is why it works on toast and in tea as easily as straight off the spoon.

My honey has crystallised. Is that normal?

Completely normal, and a sign it has not been heat treated. Crystallisation does not mean it has spoiled. To return it to liquid, stand the jar in warm water for about 15 minutes, keeping it below 40°C so the raw enzymes are preserved. Do not microwave it.

Where can you ship it?

Across Australia with two exceptions. Because of quarantine restrictions on bee products, Tasmanian honey cannot be sent to Western Australia or Kangaroo Island, and we cannot ship it to New Zealand. Everything else in our range travels normally.

Is honey safe for young children?

Honey of any kind should not be given to children under 12 months, because of the risk of infant botulism. For older children and adults it is an ordinary food. Avoid it if you are allergic to honey, bee stings or bee products.

Is it certified organic?

No. The hives are placed in wild, unfarmed native bush with no cropping or agricultural spraying in the bees' forage range, but we hold no organic certification and will not claim one.

Which size should I get?

The 400g works out cheaper per gram and is what most people reorder. The 250g is the easier place to start, and the easier jar to give away.

How do the pack savings work?

Choose your pack above and the discount is applied automatically at checkout. There is no code to enter: 5% off 3 or more, 10% off 5 or more eligible Zea products.

How should I store it?

In a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Raw honey keeps for a very long time and does not need refrigeration.
