Rosemary Essential Oil 10mL
Rosemary produces several distinct oils depending on where and how it grows, and the difference is not subtle. Zea's is the alpha-pinene chemotype, grown in Tasmania, which reads fresh, pine-like and herbaceous rather than sharp and camphoraceous. The chemotype is stated on the bottle, which is more than most rosemary oils will tell you.

Rosemary oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Rosmarinus officinalis, the same plant that has sat in kitchen gardens for centuries. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family alongside lavender, mint and thyme. Zea's is grown in Tasmania, on Pyemmairrener land, and is the alpha-pinene chemotype.
From bush to bottle
Rosemary is a Mediterranean shrub and it behaves like one: it wants sun, sharp drainage and soil with very little in it. Rich ground and heavy water produce lush growth and thin oil. Tasmania's drier eastern country suits it well.
The leaf is what goes to the still. Rosemary is cut while the growth is still soft rather than after it has hardened into wood, because the oil glands sit in the leaf and the young stem, not in the older timber.
Steam passes through the cut leaf, lifts the volatile oil, and the two are condensed and separated. Every batch is GC/MS tested, which is how the chemotype is confirmed rather than assumed.
Rosmarinus officinalis is one of the clearest examples of why chemotype matters. The same species produces a camphor type, a 1,8-cineole type and an alpha-pinene type, depending on where it grows and the conditions it grows in. All three are legitimately rosemary oil. All three smell and behave differently.
The camphor type is the one most people have met, and it is the sharpest and most medicinal of the three. The alpha-pinene type, which is what Zea stocks, leads instead with a fresh, resinous pine character over a herbaceous base. If a rosemary oil does not state its chemotype anywhere, you are buying whichever one the supplier happened to have.
Quality and testing
Every batch is GC/MS tested and carries a certificate of analysis. The full constituent breakdown is held on the batch certificate rather than published here, because the ranges shift with each season and harvest.
Rosemary evolved on the dry, stony hillsides of the Mediterranean, and it still wants those conditions: sun, sharp drainage and poor soil. Zea's is grown in Tasmania on Pyemmairrener land, where the drier country gives it close enough to what it is looking for.

Ways to use it
3 to 6 drops in a diffuser or oil burner. The simplest way in.
Rosemary blends well with Kunzea, Peppermint Gum, Frankincense and the citrus oils.
One or two drops in a carrier oil such as jojoba. Patch test first.
One drop inhaled from a tissue when you want the aroma on the move.
A few drops in water instead of a synthetic air freshener.
Well dispersed in a carrier or with bath salts, never neat on water.
A few drops in a homemade surface spray as a fresh deodoriser.
15 drops in 2 cups of hot water makes a fresh, non-toxic surface solution.

Questions, answered
A 100% pure essential oil, steam distilled from the leaves of Rosmarinus officinalis grown in Tasmania. It is single origin, GC/MS tested, and is the alpha-pinene chemotype.
Refreshing and herbaceous with a fresh, resinous pine character. Noticeably less camphoraceous than the rosemary oil most people have encountered.
Start with 3 to 6 drops in a diffuser. For skin, dilute one or two drops in a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond, and patch test first.
A chemotype is a chemically distinct population within one species. Rosmarinus officinalis produces a camphor type, a 1,8-cineole type and an alpha-pinene type. All three are sold as rosemary oil and all three smell different. Zea's is the alpha-pinene type and says so.
Same species. Whether it is the same chemotype depends entirely on where your plant came from, which is exactly the point.
No. Never apply an undiluted essential oil and never take one internally. Dilute in a carrier oil first, and patch test.
