Eucalyptus Essential Oil 10mL
There are more than eight hundred eucalyptus species and only a handful are worth distilling. Blue Mallee, Eucalyptus polybractea, is the one commercial growers settled on, because it yields more cineole-rich oil per hectare than the alternatives. It is the reason eucalyptus oil smells the way it does in your head.

Zea's Eucalyptus is steam distilled from the leaves of Eucalyptus polybractea, known as Blue Mallee. A mallee is not a tree in the usual sense: it grows as a cluster of stems from a woody underground lignotuber, so it looks more like a large shrub. Zea's is grown in South Australia, on Bangarrla land.
From bush to bottle
Blue Mallee grows as multiple stems from a lignotuber, a woody underground storage organ that survives fire and drought and reshoots afterwards. That structure is exactly what makes it suited to repeated harvesting: cutting the stems is something the plant is already built to recover from.
Harvesting takes the leafy stems back hard. The lignotuber survives untouched and sends up fresh growth, and the same plants are cut again on a cycle of several years. Nothing is replanted between harvests.
Steam passes through the leaf, lifts the volatile oil, and the two are condensed and separated. Every batch is GC/MS tested and carries a certificate of analysis.
Most eucalypts produce an oil of some kind. Very few produce one worth the cost of distilling, and fewer still produce the clean, high-cineole profile that people recognise as eucalyptus. Blue Mallee is the species the Australian industry selected for precisely that combination of yield and profile.
Its habit helps as much as its chemistry. Because a mallee reshoots from an underground lignotuber, a plantation is cut back rather than cleared and replanted, and the same stand keeps producing for decades. That is a genuinely low-input crop: no irrigation, no fertiliser, and a plant that treats being cut down as a normal part of life.
Quality and testing
Every batch is GC/MS tested and carries a certificate of analysis. The full constituent breakdown is held on the batch certificate rather than published here, because the ranges shift with each season and harvest.
Blue Mallee belongs to the semi-arid country of inland south-eastern Australia, and Zea's is grown in South Australia on Bangarrla land. The lignotuber that lets it reshoot after fire is the same feature that lets it be harvested again and again without replanting.

A botanical and aroma comparison to help you choose between oils. It is not a claim that one oil performs better than another.
Ways to use it
3 to 6 drops in a diffuser or oil burner. The simplest way in.
Eucalyptus blends with the melaleucas and with other Australian natives such as Kunzea, Lavender and Lemon Myrtle.
One or two drops in a carrier oil such as jojoba. Patch test first.
One drop inhaled from a tissue when you want the aroma on the move.
A few drops in water instead of a synthetic air freshener.
Well dispersed in a carrier or with bath salts, never neat on water.
A few drops in a homemade surface spray as a fresh deodoriser.
A few drops on the shower floor, away from where you stand, for a steam diffusion.

Eucalyptus polybractea, or Blue Mallee. It is the species the Australian industry selected for oil production, because it gives a high yield of clean, cineole-rich oil.
A growth habit rather than a species. A mallee sends up multiple stems from a woody underground lignotuber and reshoots from it after fire or cutting, which is why the same plants can be harvested for decades without replanting.
